Definitely agree on the brokers part, it's amazing how many people don't understand that. As far as salespeople now being saints though, can't say I agree really. It's definitely a lot better now, but I still saw plenty of stuff that I found distasteful in my time in the business. Sales people may have evolved somewhat, but in my experience the management are still made up of the old guard.

Now that I’ve got the M3, the dealers are a lot more receptive toward me. They used to just ignore me, what 24 year old can afford to buy an expensive BMW. It’s like night and day, pulled up in the 1997 explorer, no one wanted to talk to me, pull up in the M3, hold on let me get the keys.

As far as automotive brokers, I assume they’re referring to a service like Beepi. You can get ripped off, you can also use a service like that to buy a car from a market where that car is depressed in value, like Texas, to a car market where that car is worth more, like Atlanta.

Agree. Mostly. The majority of salesmen I know aren’t that knowledgeable about the cars they sell. Some don’t even know how to pair phones.

Some brokers can be useful. Particularly if they’re more of a consultant in choosing a car and then the buying process. Particularly if the consumer doesn’t have a clue what car to buy or which loan to choose.

Have to agree here. Most salesman I’ve encountered don’t know much about the vehicle they are selling, how to pair a phone, or how to demonstrate it’s technology. I could understand if they worked at an Acura dealership, and were showing you a used Cadillac on the lot to a certain extent. But Acura trains sales people on Acuras. You should at least know “your” brand. A sales person today needs to be tech savy. It’s a shame the business doesn’t attract real car enthusiasts, people that have an interest in what they are selling. You get the feeling a large majority of sales people were selling appliances 6 months ago, and a year from now it will be something else.

Exactly. But that’s not too say that some salesmen really know their shit. Some do and are excellent at their jobs. Some are enthusiasts. I know one who has a Mercedes 124 300e convertible in mint condition and another who drives a Peugeot 505 diesel wagon. But there is also one who now sells RV’s to wannabe cougars, and one who was selling smart phones a year ago.
